The two John Brack pieces I did in 2009 sold yesterday, I'm going to do a bit of a post on John Brack and his show from 2009. His art work has been a great influence on me, and seeing the body of work at the NGV last year led to the these two pieces. Four of his paintings appear in the back ground, and the foreground has influence and reference to a couple of his works. Ironically his Collins street painting has a similar composition, I believe sub consciously this was done on purpose. His paintings feet quite nostalgic and have a great sense of family and community. He is a continual influence, and I think Melbourne is lucky to have such heritage in such a great Artist.

'The boxing match 2009' un-pieced
I wanted to show a bit of background on how some of the pieces came together, and a bit of the process..
'The boxing match' which I painted in 2009 was based on my brother's first fight.. 'ding ding'.. the people that witnessed it, the way the day unfolded and some of the emotion involved. It was a good day, some of Adelaide's finest were there to see the fight, and helped make up the narrative as it evolved. Flip, aka Philippe Bechervaise, appears in the painting four times, and was referenced from a bunch of different times and places. Mick Martain, ex Kangaroos football player sat in the crowd at a table with a bunch of his mates, and made up the middle row of the painting. He is the larger bald guy in the middle. Home camp table, including the three Flip's made up the bottom. There was a great energy involved from the lights to, dare I say it, the dancing girls, which didn't end up making the cut. But the trainer and the TV camera man did.

This is my first post in four years...
bit of time since I've put my work out in the public domain, mostly for good reasons, I've just had my second solo show at Brood Box gallery which was a great success. Thank you to everyone that came down for it. I'll start to put up the work I've done over the last couple of years, and some of the stuff I did pre 2006 as well.. Anyway more to come soon.
Thanks again for all that came to the show.
Ed.
